Gummy Smile
What Is A gummy smile?

A gummy smile, known in medical terms as excessive gingival display, is when you smile and too much gum tissue shows above the top teeth. There is not a set definition of a gummy smile, as it is not a medical problem per se. A gummy smile is mainly based on personal perception

How does gummy smile treatment work?

Muscle relaxing injections are a non-surgical alternative to extensive surgical treatments for severe gummy smiles. Botox is a neurotoxin that depresses various nerve functions. It is given as local anaesthetic injections just above the smile, at the Yonsei Point, which is where three muscles meet.
The injections work by paralyzing the muscles that pull up the corners of the mouth, and as a result, stop the excessive display of gum tissue. The procedure takes only 10 minutes to perform and has few risks. There is usually some bruising and swelling after the injections, but these will subside within a week or two. Results are usually seen within 3-4 days and last for around 3-6 months.

Does it hurt?

Botox injections do not hurt when injected for the brow lift, forehead, crow’s feet, furrows, or other facial muscles. However, some patients are more sensitive to cosmetic injections than others. If you are sensitive to injections, we recommend applying a topical numbing cream one hour before your treatment to minimize any potential discomfort from the Botox injections.
